Who installs Viking

Viking Pools is a live, active brand inside the Latham Group, not a defunct label. Latham bought it in 2005 and has run it as its fiberglass division ever since, using it as the vehicle for three further acquisitions. It fits buyers whose builder carries Viking and who want a shell backed by the largest manufacturer in the category. It fits owners of older Viking pools even better, because the most common question about this brand is who honors a legacy warranty, and the answer is clear: Latham does, directly. The confusion is real, and it is the paperwork's fault rather than yours.

Who makes it

Viking Pools LLC is the fiberglass division of Latham Pool Products. Latham International entered fiberglass in 2005 by acquiring Viking Pools, then one of the largest fiberglass shell manufacturers, based in Jane Lew, West Virginia and founded in 1975. Pool & Spa News reported at the time that terms were undisclosed and no layoffs occurred, with Viking continuing as a stand-alone operating unit under its existing management. One retrospective dealer blog dates the deal to 2000; two independent contemporaneous trade sources say 2005, so 2005 is the reliable date.

Then Latham used Viking to consolidate the rest of the category. Viking acquired Blue Hawaiian Fiberglass Pools in 2010, per Pool & Spa News. Viking acquired Trilogy Pools of Fayetteville, Tennessee, reported by both River Pools & Spas and Pool & Spa Marketing. Viking Pools, LLC also acquired Royal Fiberglass Pools. By 2012 Latham had completed four fiberglass acquisitions in seven years. So the ownership map reads: Latham owns Viking, and Viking is how Latham bought Blue Hawaiian, Trilogy and Royal. Four names, one company, one warranty administrator.

One corporate fact that circulates as a rumor is worth stating accurately. Latham International filed Chapter 11 on 2009-12-01, listing $239.4 million in debt against roughly $67 million in assets, per Pool & Spa News. It was a prepackaged debt restructuring rather than a liquidation. CEO Mark Laven stated at the time that the company would retain its current management, staff, facilities and brands, and that it was profitable and current with vendor payments. Latham targeted emergence by 2010-02-01. That is a real, verifiable event. It is not evidence that Viking or Latham went out of business or stopped honoring warranties, and a separate forum claim that the company operates under different legal names to avoid liability has no independent corroboration and is not repeated here as fact.

Is Viking still sold? Yes. Latham's own site presents Viking at lathampool.com/vikingpools as a current brand. There is no separate Viking dealer locator, so buyers route through Latham's Find a Builder tool. One signal worth noticing: a Lake Champlain Pools product page for Viking Fiberglass Pools carries a page title reading "Latham Fiberglass Pools" with Latham's logo. At dealer level, Latham is becoming the umbrella name and Viking is drifting toward a product-line label.

The lineup and sizes

Viking shapes and sizes are now presented through Latham's catalog rather than an independent Viking model list, and we could not confirm a current standalone Viking lineup during research. We are not going to reconstruct one from old dealer pages. Ask your builder which specific Viking models they can order and get current dimensions, depths and gallons in writing. The warranty, actually read

The important answer first. If you own an older Viking pool, contact Latham directly. Viking Pools LLC is Latham's fiberglass division and still operating, so there is no vanished company to track down.

Viking's stated position is that your warranty is the warranty you were given at your original pool purchase. Coverage therefore depends on which document was in force on that date rather than a single current standard, so find your original paperwork first. Latham has a practice of assuming acquired brands' obligations rather than voiding them: Viking has continued honoring claims on pools installed by Blue Hawaiian before that acquisition.

The friction is the branding. Current Latham fiberglass warranty documents are titled "Latham," not "Viking." You bought a Viking and you call Latham, and nothing in your paperwork explains that. That is a structural naming problem, not user error. What owners say

One warning has to come first, because it is the main way this brand's reviews get misread. "Viking Pools" is both a national manufacturer brand and a common local business name. BBB lists at least five separate businesses using it that are dealers or installers rather than the Latham manufacturing entity, including Viking Pools of the Greater Valley in Ripon, California; Viking Pools in Zephyrhills, Florida; DFW Viking Pools and Spas in Mesquite, Texas; Viking Pool in Midland, Texas; and First Coast Viking Pools in Jacksonville, Florida, which is BBB accredited with an A+ rating.

One of those, Viking Pools Inc. of Seattle, Washington, is confirmed closed. BBB's file states that according to information in BBB files it appears this business is no longer in business. It was founded 1994-02-25. That is a small independent Seattle company that used the Viking Pools trade name, and there is no evidence connecting it to Latham's Viking Pools LLC. Read as "Viking Pools went out of business," it would be flatly wrong. A ConsumerAffairs page for Viking Pools carries a URL suffix consistent with a Massachusetts local business, and we could not confirm which entity it reviews, so we exclude its content entirely.

No complaint text, dates or star ratings were retrievable from any Viking-named BBB profile during our research. That is a genuine gap in the record, not a clean bill of health.

On themes that did clear the bar, the dominant one across Trouble Free Pool threads is that installer quality matters more than the Viking shell itself, and it appears in three or more independent owner posts. In the main Viking fiberglass thread, several owners report being happy: a Viking Baja owner said they could not be happier and called the pool perfect in every way, and a four-year owner described a nice feel and easy cleaning. The same thread carries an owner who liked the product but explicitly not their local Viking builder nor Viking's willingness to hold that builder accountable. Another owner reported yellow staining from the gelcoat spraying stage about six weeks after installation, resolved with ascorbic acid and a metal sequestrant, a cosmetic issue rather than a structural one.

A second, thinner theme, at two owner reports, is warranty-service friction. In a thread about a Viking pool crack, an owner whose roughly one-year-old pool cracked reported that the fine print required them to personally brace the pool with lumber, drain it, and remove groundwater before Viking would perform the repair, quoting the term: "In the event of repair, Buyer is responsible for draining and bracing the Pool, and removing all hydrostatic (ground water) from around Pool." In a separate thread about a Latham fiberglass warranty claim, an owner reported a claim open since May with one brief call after two weeks, then two months of silence, and Latham's position that "we only make the shell, for everything else, you need to work with your installer." Two mentions clears our bar, but we found no BBB corroboration of the same pattern.

Reddit produced nothing. Repeated targeted searches returned zero threads discussing the Viking Pools brand, with results dominated by unrelated Viking-named products. That is a genuine thin-footprint finding for a mature legacy brand operating through institutional channels.

Questions to ask a Viking dealer

1. Is the pool you are quoting me sold as a Viking or as a Latham, and which company's name is on the warranty document?
2. I already own a Viking. Which warranty document was in force on my original purchase date, and can you help me get a copy?
3. If I need a warranty repair, am I responsible for draining, bracing and dewatering the pool myself before Latham will send anyone?
4. Which Viking models can you actually order today, and what are their dimensions, depths and gallon capacities?
5. When Latham tells me the shell is your problem and you tell me it is Latham's, who resolves it? Name the person.
6. Are you affiliated with Latham's builder network, or an independent business that happens to use the Viking name?
